Lowering the front

The back suspension on my T1 has sagged slightly due to age, so the back is noticeably lower than the front. I want to slightly lower the front, just to even out the ride height. I'm tempted to chop the springs slightly, but I'm worried that will wear my shocks out. A mate of mine suggested I take t...

Rolling my City over

A few dodgy people from school want to roll my T1 over onto its side, and believe me, these people will do it. I have since gotten a 5 star alarm installed which should deter vandalisim, but what else can I do to prevent this? I know one guy whos parents had a T1 that someone rolled over and I don't...

Boost

At how many revs is the turbo meant to start boosting at? My T1 boosts from 500rpm and even when I take it real easy it still boosts. It can't be good for the turbo if it almost constantly boosts even under very light acceleration.

I had a look in the engine bay and I can't tell where the leak is coming from. I asked my mechanic if the oil stop leak products are safe to use in a turbod engine, and he said it's fine because the oil supply going into the turbo is at quite a high pressure meaning it won't block the oil to the tur...

Oil leak

My City turbo has an oil leak, it's not too bad but I have to top it up every few weeks. I have seen these bottles of "oil stop leak" which you put in the oil filler hole in the engine and it fixes the seals. My question is, is it safe to use this type of product in a turbo because I don't...

Really slow City

Last week my mates who followed me in my City Turbo said that there was visible smoke coming out of the exhaust. So I got someone else to follow me and they also said that it's quite smokey and that I should check my oil. My car doesn't leak oil and I never have to top it up between oil changes, but...

T1 vs Mini Cooper S

A guy I know thinks he will be able to beat me in a drag in his 1962 1275cc Mini Cooper S (naturally aspirated), which is the top of the range model and it's completely stock standard. My car is a 1983 T1 with a pod filter and the cat converter has been romoved as the only performance mods. Several ...

Performance upgrades

I have a 1983 T1 with a pod filter, 13" turbo 2 rims, boost gauge and the cat converter has been removed. I want to increase boost from stock 11lb to 14. Will this make a noticeable difference? Also what other bolt on modifications should I do next?

Electrical problems

One night when I came home from a cruise I noticed that my park lights won't turn off on my 1983 Turbo 1. So I turned the lights on and off but that didn't work. So the next morning my park lights were still on and it started up fine. I drove it to and from work no problems except the park lights we...

t1 vs t2

Ive never owned a city turbo and id like 2 know what the difference is in terms of performance between a t1 and a t2. 0-100 - how much faster would a standard t2 be than a standard t1?
