Wheels/tyres
Wheels/tyres
Time for new tyres: I now have 185/60R13-80H but would like grippier (wider?) to be stickyer on the wet. (two spinouts!how can I make the rear from trying to swap ends?) I don't like my lace rims and would like to find the originals but if they are 13X5s maybe they won't take the wide rubber. Whatever I end up with, they must fit inside my '83 T2 flares. I need recommendations for tyre and wheel types and sizes (same front/rear?) I get to drive the super-tight switchbacks of the NZ passes that is pure heaven for me and my T2! Coming down the backside while waxing RX7s I could use upgraded brakes. My top so far is 176kph with 53000 kms on the motor. Will induction and exhaust upgrades give me 200kph?
Re: Wheels/tyres
Probably the most appropriate mags for a city T2 would have to be the factory Integra mags (93 shape)
This is the cheaper more practical method
Picked my set up for $300 with tyres
The tyres were wasted but i bought some G-Grids and haven't had any spins since.
This is what i have on my city and they are bloody great i have fitted 195
They seem to fit great (no scrapping in side guards they fit good) and they look bloody great to

But :-/ i did roll the guards and this has served its purpose as a pratical solution to my traction problems ;D
Good luck hope this helps man

Turbo2: What does "roll the guards" mean? Thanx, yd
Re: Wheels/tyres
Rolling Gaurds Mean's
Rolling the lip of metal Just up inside the car's wheel arch
This is usually done by rolling a length of pipe in-between the body and the wheel, as the car is being moved backwards and forth.
Rolling the pipe from one end of the lip to the other. ;D
This reduce's Tyre wear on Metal Part of gaurd :-*

Re: Wheels/tyres
or banging it with a ballpeen hammer, if you do it right it comes out better than rolling it cos that tends to ripple the gaurd..... ;D
Re: Wheels/tyres
Okay: I settled on 15 inch silver wide 5-spoke with 195/45/15 as they were the same outside diameter as my 185/60/13's. I still had to roll the rear guards, thanks for the explanation. New yellow paint, top speed down to 160-I think the waste gate is seizing up, in the shop now. YD

Re: Wheels/tyres
Yeah definetely found that when my t1 was still standard i changed the wheels from 12s to 14s and noticed that the car was considerabely slower but you soon forget about that after a few mods

Re: Wheels/tyres
Is it just slower on your speedo??
'Cos I've found if you put bigger wheels on your car your speedo can possibly go out 3-4%
i.e. if you are travelling at 100km/h then you speedo may say 96km/h
Just thought that might be the case
Another thing::
I just brought some mags 15x7's and I was wanting to know what tyres will fit on these with my cabriolet. I want to put them on 'cos they look a hell of a lot better than the 13's that are on it at the mo .
Cheers

Re: Wheels/tyres
I am talking about acceleration.
When i changed from 12s to 14s the car felt slower accelerating from standstill but i gained 50% or more traction

Re: Wheels/tyres
True!!
I suppose that could be classed as an alright trade off - especially if you do some more mods to get that acceleration back aye ;D.
