Hey, test drove one yesterday...
Idiot dealer wants 7grand for it...
admitedly its immaculate , has recaros, and jap mag wheels...but hey...
guys here said no more than 2500 is fair price...
So id need to know of City turbo round Brisbane preferably....
WTB City Turbo
Re: WTB City Turbo
depends what condition it is in... recaros and mags are probably worth more than the car alone. maybe offer him what you think its worth... $4000, $5000? worth a try.
otherwise wait another month or so and he'll still be trying to sell it and getting desperate, then start negotiating

Re: WTB City Turbo
You can pay 2500 for a tidy Pro T. My T11 is fairly tidy, pics are in the pics section, when I compare it with Pro's and the odd Turbo that I have seen for sale I feel it is should bring about 5500. It seems to be very original, still has all original seat trim, no evidence of any accident damage or serious rust. (I know all the places to look, have 3 of them. 2 Pro Ts) Honda Wheels sunroof, original Jap Clarion radios etc. One of my employers is threatening to supply me with a car from Feb. if that happens I will probably have to let it go. Bet the replacement won't be as much fun!! Henry
Re: WTB City Turbo
Once again i agree with Henry on this one. $2500 will not get you much of a City T, for a decent one you should be budgeting 5k plus, especially for a T2...

Hmmm..
well after sriving it (and now desperately wanting it)
i believe the price from what you say...is fair enough
I'll try get price lowered , but its not like it wont be there in a coupler months....he has had it for bout 2half three years...
The air conditioned sandwich box thing still works a treat too!.....
What problems should I look at with the car??
for instance where the bonnet hinges are its visibly been repainted there.....
nothing else visibly wrong.... being the only one i've driven i admit i was well impressed with it...
Once we got the Yokohama A609s (i think) tyre pressure up it really handled well...
I was surprised by the boost cut off though...!!! front dropped as i took it up hill, accelerated to 80kph and it cut in.....
the feeling of the torque through the steerin wheel during a fast Uturn was defintely worth it!!!
Well hopefully, if finances go well I may soon have it./..
who wants to buy my morris Minor...nissan 1400 and g/box, disk brakes, prper shockies, rear coil overs, Sony CD / Kickers...????

Re: WTB City Turbo
Smithy, sounds like the wastegate might be stuck causing the boost cut, be worth getting that checked. Causes can be stuffed actuator or cracked housing, hasten slowly!! Henry

Re: WTB City Turbo
Wouldn't it have been the fuel cut out thing, the computer cutti the fuel??
if the wastegate was stuck wouldn't it have continued to rev. rather than cut power? thats my understanding of wastgates anyway and how the efi computer works...
we are still pissin about with finance, but i really want this car.....i mean i can't sleep at night , seriously.....

Re: WTB City Turbo
Hey Smithy,
What would be happening would be that the wastegate is not opening either due to a problem with the actuator or a crack in the housing. This causes the turbo to overboost up to about 16psi at which time the computer calls it quits and cuts the fuel. Boost should be around 12-13psi and should hold there to redline.
This would have to be the most common city turbo problem.

Re: WTB City Turbo
So do you think i should get the wastegate checked, i mean ge tthe guy at the car place to get it sorted?
OK, so say the wastegate has this, how do they fix it?
And what is the need for the cut out....is that just for revs then, like cause when it happened i wanted to test acceleration up hill so i got a good clear run then put it to the floor....i dont know what the revs were or boost as the boost gauge doesn't work....
so i dont see how the wastegate problem would be releted to this instance...
could very well have been the rev limiter cuttin the fuel...right??
I mean i dont want to f#ck the dealer around for somethin it supposed to do...
???? help......

Re: WTB City Turbo
Hey Smithy,
1. I wouldn't pay $7,000 for a T2 if the boost has been modified (only if stock standard)
2. If it was surgin up the hill, sounds like more than 12psi!!! Listen to these guy's, they drive them, they know what a stuck wategate is like (because it happens more frequent that you'd think).
The wategate probs are due to heat, a guy i knew had been through 3 T2 turbines because he raised boost and kept cookin it.
You wouldn't be wastin any time getting that turbine checked out (if anything you'll get it for a cheaper price!)
Cheers,
Luke.

Re: WTB City Turbo
Hmmm....We've got finance so in a coupler weeks
we'll be gettin it....
unless he sold it after 3odd years exactly when i want it!
Im going to ask about the wastegate though....
is it generally an easy thing to fix? or more of a replace it expensive thing to fix??
How exactly does the heat effect it??
it works by a diaphragm doesn't it??
ta again guys..im definetly buyin it, if i have to get it sorted myself......
Oh...from memory boost could be felt from 2700rpm upward....tapering slightly (from memory) near higher revs...5000up...
Engine too looked standard, no additions ie bleed valves...
I'll do some research ion the turbo IHI Rsomething....see what I find...
THANKS GUYS!
back soon....

Re: WTB City Turbo
my civic would cut and it was like hitting a brick wall your head would go forward and all. What it was was one of the wires onto a map sensor. Soldered it up and problem dissapeared. My friend a mechanic thought it may have been somethin else so we cranked the turbo up to 20 pound boost and it was really wild. Quite fun drifting sideways coming around a corner when it kicked in. That was till i blew the turbo up. but i found one at the importers for $80.00
So u may wanna check the wires depending on how bad the cut is.
