my car has started blowing a fair bit of smoke recently mostly on cold start up and also whilst ime driving
i brought it up once before and you guys said it was most probly worn valve stem seals? is this the most likely cause?
if so how difficult are they to obtain and replace is it something i could do my self or best left to an expert/dumass mechanic
thanks in advance people ;D

Re: smokey
nah its a piece of cake but... you need the proppa tools.. and you'll also probably need to take the head off(unless you have a compressor)so if your not at all confident take it to a mech... unless one of yo mates is confident/competent, and you trust him/her..... head gasket sets arent hard to come by... in nz anyway... and go for about 120 bucks... its a good mission to do valve stems... might as well have the head serviced while its off.. decarbed, 3angle seats etc
Re: smokey
ime getting more and more confident every time i do work on it and if i get into trouble i can always tow it to a mechanic,i have a compressor,as for tools i have a fairly good supply ;D
can someone in nz please buy a head gasket set on my behalf?if i cant get one locally

Re: smokey
Hello Turbocab,
In all probability it could be the valve stem seals. First get some new seals. Local feed back is that they may not be a stock item anymore. Do you have the part numbers?
Avoid taking the head off. Taking the head off is tedious, expensive and gives you the chance to break lots more things, including skin.
Do you have a working relationship with any mechanics? Where are you actually? In Brisbane, Sydney ot Melbourne, join the local Honda Club and that'll help you get access to either a member with a full workshop, or a club reccomended mechanic.
The mechanic can do the tricky bit. You can do the bits like taking off those things that get in the way, like cam cover, rocker gear. The mechanic can then hook up their air compressor, compress the valve springs and replace those seals. Than you put the bits back on that you took off. And it's their fault if they drop a valve down a cylinder. The valves can also be held up using the old pushing the string in through the plug hole.
If you're in Adelaide there's at least one lad who has doen this job all himself.
Now go forth and order those seals.
good luck,
Campbell
