Doin my block...

Postby mangusta » Mon Nov 13, 2006 12:32 am

Need a block of a T1 City, there are some bits of the casing chipped away from the bore sleeves, honda mech recommends getting a better block as it will be likely to fail head gaskets....

Are any of the Civic motors the same block? Have a honda wreckers looking through their City engines for a decent block, but no word yet.....

Cheers
Paul

Nope, No other honda motors have the same block, SOL there. I am 90% sure teh N/A city runs a different block but I dont know in what way. Same bore and stroke, different oil pump. The block might have different oiling and cooling for the extra heat of the turbo motor?

The turbo block is internally stamped as being turbo, so there must be some differences.

Is it possible to weld the damage to the block?

It is two areas where the alloy has chipped from the sleeve, apparently it won't seal well, higher risk of failing head gasket.....

The N/A block won't have the hole for the turbo return oil. I have a spare but not sure of condition.

Running oil supply for turbo isn't a problem, my dad works at a shop fitting turbo's to diesels etc, easy enough to rig it up from the pressure sender etc...

I'm in W.A. lemme know if you have one, or if anyone out there in WA has one up for offer...

AAA Honda Wreckers is looking through theirs for a decent block, and they want about $200 for it...

Way back i got quotes from charles and he said it costs 3x as much to convert the N/A to turbo than to get a turbo engine.

I wouldn't even consider the N/A block. Probably even made from different metal composites.

Is it possible to put a T1 head on a T2 block?

Is it possible to drop an entire T2 into a T1 ?? Probably need either a T2 bonnet or to use a diff intercooler, but otherwise anything else I need to do? (Probably put the T1 throttle on as I don't have a T2 control box)....

yes T1 head on T2 block is ok. T2 engine you can drop straight in if you use the intake manifold and everything thats bolted to it from the T1. (throttle body, intake plenumy thing etc.)

Ah, good news then....

It appears I can get my hands on a T1 and a T2 engine....

all I will have to do to put the T2 engine in then is swap intake manifold and flywheel/clutch and bolt it to my gearbox...

I don't know if the turbo is ok, is it the same turbo on T1 and 2? or, is it possible to put a T1 turbo on a T2 motor?

Also, is it possible to fit the T2 intercooler on a T1, probably need bonnet mods etc?? I have to take this over the pits, so that may wait until after it's licensed....

Cheers
Paul
