I frequently commute to rotorua...
I hope to god you aren't putting your hope in speights as 'authentic nz beer'...
southern blokes would drink yak piss if it were alcholic, seriously.
get a steiny or something.
anyway, kinda beside the point..
yes, you should bring your car
you may be suprised at the number of the little beasties in this country

Hehe theres quite a few decent Kiwi drops around the place now, and I wouldn't generally consider Speights as one of them :p
Good to hear your coming back over to the right sode of the ditch tho, if only for a visit My Aunty and Uncle from Brisbane just had a couple of weeks over here and loved it, NZ turned it on for them tho, every day was a minta.

It's probably a slightly valid question, as the Poms sometimes prefer their beer served at room temperature....
This is not the case in New Zealand.
I understand the sentimental value of Speights, which applies if it's a bad beer or not. I'd miss it if I were away, it's my shit beer of choice.
I live in Morrinsville, so if you want to pop over on your way to/from Te Aroha let me know.

Apologies to the moderators of this website, off - topic I know but nothing wrong with a bit of socialising between members of this forum is there?
Turbocitycity - Having traveled the world with the RNZN I would consider myself a reasonable expert on the brown drop , my favourite would be Le Batts Blue a Canadian Lager . But at home(NZ) I like a drop with balls , bit of colour (dark) , hoppy(bitter) Lion Red or Waikato draught out of the tap into a big pint glass or jug . Cant do that in Oz really too bloody hot , cant go past a stubby of Coopers don't care what it is as long as it's cold-bloody cold . Have been to England , we (200 Kiwi sailors) took over a pub just outside Portsmith Naval base and put in chillers for their kegs. Even the Pom's had to admit their local drops tasted better chilled especially Guinness which has to have two pours to the pint warm only one chilled (fatal) .
Henry , beer at the Morphy is W/End draught isn't it ? Can't think off hand what you'd get over there that's close ,you'll notice most Kiwi drops out of the tap are darker than what we get here unless you buy stubbies of oz beer over there. Any Kiwi know of a draught beer thats more like a lager than a heavier pilsener in ChCh ?
Mike/Bigleboe What's with Palmy ? Seems everyone's from there .
Got rellies in New Plymouth (actually Waitara) and in Morrinsville-just moved from Tairua (christ know's why) Mike could you please look up Gary Milne in the phone book I need his address and phone number . Used to bus from Waitoa Primary to Morrinsville High for tech.I'll need some details of you blokes over there catch up for a beer of your choice
