Just getting to the end of the T04 conversion and we've come to the ultimate question...
To scream or not to scream ? ? ?
I believe there are a few of you out there with your wastegates dumping groundwards, how difficult is it to get a WOF (in NZ)?
Is it going to be worth making a dump with the classy removeable section that heads back into the exhaust only for getting a warrant?
Also, warrants aside will I get a screamer pipe past the happy little man who has so pleasently failed my engine certification in months gone past?

Re: SCREAMER
i say just dont worry about any dump just get a 3 inch off the turbo and then go into a 2.5 inch and you should be able to get pass the warrant people as they have actually changed the law again and for the moment being there should be no restriction on exhaust noise.
Put asside the warrant people and i reckon you would enjoy the more throaty sound instead of a loud screeeeem

Re: SCREAMER
With the different turbo and the external wastegate that goes with it (it has no internal) there HAS to be a dump pipe. The question is merely where does it go...

Re: SCREAMER
Although my RHB52 has in internal wastegate, I'm using a tricky dump pipe back to the main exhaust.
Looks like this;
All ceramic coated too! Should flow pretty well. ;D

hey, well i dont own a city but my mate has a t1 with a few mods. about to put a bigger turbo on it if we can make it fit in that litte engine bay!
any way, i run a screemer pipe on my starlet, when it comes to wof time i unbolt the whole waste gate an bolt on a bit of steel to cover the hole, have passed at least 4 wof's like this, just have to take it easy since theres unlimited boost

Re: SCREAMER
Thats quite a nice idea. Hitting boostcut every 10 seconds would be a crap way to drive, but they couldnt fail your wof on it, and they cant prove that you dont drive like that all the time.
The only problem i could see with that on my setup is that the dump is gonna be one hell of a crazy shape. Im not sure we could just slide it out...definately something to think about though!

Re: SCREAMER
its a wof fail if you have an open screamer pipe. its an exhaust leak and therefore NOT warentable...
stink but true...
I made a removable link for my external wastegate, so if need be i can vent it to atmosphere...

Re: SCREAMER
How exactly does your removable link work? Is it a 'T' joint that you can screw off and replace with a straight?

two completly seperate exhaust pipes that join behind the engine into a big 3" flange.. the run different paths even..
a section of the smaller wastegate pipe can be removed...
