Gearbox Strength

Postby Muppet » Tue Apr 26, 2005 12:38 pm

I know this has probably been covered before but can't find it.

Is the T2 gearbox any stronger than the T1 as been talking to a T1 owner who has just had his gearbox shit it self, lost first and second and reverse, and told me to look after the gearbox as "he though that the were a weak point".

Is there any strong boxes that bolt on to the T2 motor ??

I believe the T2 gearbox is a civic 1500 one, and a T1 gearbox is a 1300 one. (someone correct me if im wrong)

Both the T1 and the T2 have the "GR" gearbox.

They should have the same 4.05 diff ratio.

But to fit the T1 box to a T2 you have to change flywheels and clutch, well thats what I've read so far.

So the T1 box would be a better choice if one was to have a City that does drag duties on the odd occasion?

I would have said that the t2 box was better for other reasons but i guess thats a valid use for a T1 box.

The t2 box has the advantage of not having the stepped clutch and flywheel so it's easier to find bits for and mix and match bits off other cars, possibly even find cool bits like lightened flywheels.
