Top speed of the T2

Postby Muppet » Thu Sep 01, 2005 4:31 pm

Just seeing if I've got a problem or its normal.
The T2 goes good up to about 120-130kmph but from then on it just seems to slow up. I've only had it up to about 140 ish but that was on a fairly long stretch of run.
Should the accelerate fairly quickly or is it normal for them to slow up at that speed?

My T2 is stock and I've had it up to 165kmph, but if you search the forum you'll see that people have got them over 180.

when my NA city pro t was on the road, standard i had it up to about 135km/h in 5th at about 4grand... I fairly started to run out of road though and 5th gear has pretty much no acceleration... ive later heard that you get a higher top speed in 4th.

also, remember the torque factor of such a low capacity engine isnt gonig to allow for heaps of top speed in the end.

Honda seem to have built all city's with gearing that accelerates, not holds high top speed.

Still pulling strong for me in 4th @ 148, but 5th is slightly slower.

Exhaust helps a lot for me. Is a quiker up there, then a a standard one.

Not saying that it won't go quicker but just seems slugish from about 130Km. I'm just wondering if the original air filter is limiting it, as the exhaust has been done.
Yeah 5th gear is just for economy not top speed.

While colin still owned my civic, we took it out to a long straight with a midly worked city turbo 2 engine (Zorst, intake, recon turbo).

Lets just say his speedo finishes at 160, and we had it pointing straight down, my estimate is about 200KMH, and damn, did that feel fast on stock 20+ year old suspension and 155/75 r13's

Since putting the firm as buggery suspension in my car, and the 15" wheels making the gearing taller we have had it up to about 150kph, but it feels really sketch at that speed and if you hit a decent bump you would be but a patch of grease on the road in not time flat, but the suspension rocks for cornering and having the car low so meh, not that often you go 150kph so I recon its worth the top speed trade-off.

One thing that is gay about the 15"s is the reduced accel tho, you really notice it compared to the 155/75-r13's we had on it, im gonna try and put a shorter final drive in my box, to bring all the ratios down a bit.

yeah mine also ran out of puff at about 150... but that can be attributed to the fact that a granny owned it and compression was down by 35-40% at only 90k..

EDIT: i did get it up to about 170(mpm ;)) down a hill going to athurs pass.. was solid as

On my T2 (exhaust and pod filter only mods), i did a round trip from Newcastle to Brisbane and back (visiting family).

Got to 120km/h no problems, even acceleration from 100- 140 was great

Top speed i hit was about 160, but chose to stay there, didn't feel that bad (not scary at all) but thats on freeway...

175-180 is the correct top speed for the City T's.

N/A engines get up to 140 no problems, but take their time in comparison to the T1/T2's.

85 T2 on the goldcoast hwy got to 155 with two passengers medium revs and boost ( 0.7 bar).

bit scary on the unshielded bits when the wind kicks through.  :o
less traffic more space? maybe it'd push 170 or more

dot think Id fancy any more than that ina City.
accelarations the fun part anyway...   ;D
