City engine swap

Postby Smalltiff » Thu Jun 09, 2005 9:32 pm

Hi all my name is Trevor & I am a new new newbie!!

I have had a import City cabriolet for a while now I bought it on eBay believe it or not,  it is a funtastic car & I understand where all you Guys are coming from with this ace website!

I need a little advise,  the car has the combax engine with all the anti pollution gear on it & is burning oil badly this coupled with the hondamatic box give pretty crap performance.  I have bought an 85 city pro T with a good solid engine & want to swap engines,  does anyone know of any probs i.e. rewiring anti pollution gear, tuning etc?

Many thanks.  Trev the newbie  :-/

Ok tubocab like the idea! hate the insurance premium.  Married with 2 girls!!  They call it the Barbie car for *#@!^ "s sake!!  what street cred do I have???   As for you Doggystyle!  The city is "just" about recognised as the second car but  I like it,      My wife cannot drive a full manual & I know that for a married "MAN" outnumbered by the "other sex" i.e 3 x women = no fun 4 me I think I might just be in front on this one!!  Your thoughts would be much apprieciated "GUYS WITH CARS U LIKE "

Best regards. (I am a MAN I am A MAN) Trev!!

Hi Turbocab.
I just uploaded some pics of the barbie car on "other city stuff gallery" if you want to know what colour it is?   By the way do you know what I have to do with the extra wiring to the pollution control box when I change out the old engine?   Thanks for the compliment but I'm not retiring just yet!!

Thanks Trev ;D

Wow car looks really good, especially the mags

For a little cheap performance, get a big long screwdriver, and knock out the centre of the CAT,  Actually makes a big difference. Especially noticeable around 100k.

Also we swapped a N/a engine into a T1 and I believe we ignored all the polution gear, and it ran fine. Thing to do is experiement a little, get it in wire it up, then see what hoses on the polution gear you can remove. without it affecting the running.

The engines are exactly the same!

These engines are mostly the same, with the following exceptions:

Head
Intake manifold
Pistons

Just make sure you sell the combax head to the highest bidder.  It is a cvcc head and should prove to be of great interest to the turbo drivers on this site.  Also, the pistons are likely to be stronger than the standard ER slugs, with a different crown shape, and are also useful for turbo applications.
