Mechanic...

Postby turbo2_83 » Tue Aug 30, 2005 12:46 pm

Hi everyone.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in Melbourne who is familiar with T2's and would have knowledge of part numbers etc.? My mechanic has never seen one before and I'm not keen on paying him 60 bucks an hour to match parts for me... He couldn't complete a full service because he couldn't get the part numbers for things like the fuel filter, among others. The brakes and the ball joints need to be done and I don't want to take it to him only to have him pull it apart and not be able to fix it.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Mat

i cant say i know any workshops that would be familiar with the cars, im an apprentice mechanic and own an NA city, but i work at a holden dealer so thats not a whole lot of help.

If you ring Carbitz on 9803 3022 or get in contact with your nearest bursons (google them) you should be able to get the parts your after between the two... if you can get the parts then its just a matter of finding a mechanic who you think is competent to fit the parts... brakes are pretty easy, balljoints im not as familiar with yet.

If the balljoints are the same as for an NA city, then worst case scenario if you cant find aftermarket ones, go to your nearest Honda Dealer Spare Parts and they should be able to sort something out, though you'll need a VIN likely.

I've haerd good things about Cheltenham Service Center... their 'nissan specialists' but when i had my silvia they were pretty decent, and theyve worked on all my folks cars before. Look em up perhaps.

When it comes to your basic service filters - oil, fuel and air, RYCO have listings for all of those on the import motor, either through their website, wallchart or product catalogue, if you get stuck, post here.

Good luck with it, my opinion is to part hunt yourself and supply everything you can, that way you dont get the mechanics mark-up either. Also where possible provide a sample part.

**an afterthought - your brakes should be easy as to sort out, if you ring REPCO or BURSONS they should be able to match up some equivilant pads with one of the brands they stock, or again use a sample... Try surfing the net for any brake manufacturers that have online catalogues.

G'day Mat,

I know that this is pretty obvious, but have you spoken to the Honda Car Club of Victoria?  There's at least one T2 in it and a couple of good Honda mechanics as club members.

Give David Prince a call on 03 9807 3630.

He will be very helpful in heading you in the right direction.  Pity that you missed their car care day a couple of weekends ago.  They had at least one T2 along ther.

good luck,
Campbell
