Is there something wrong with my City II Turbo?

Postby myki » Sun Jul 22, 2007 1:07 pm

Ok here's the deal, whenever i get my City to rev to about 4k in first, second and third gear there is a loud hissing noise coming from the left side of the engine bay near the firewall :( . Anyone have any ideas to what is causing this? Also if i rev to 4k in neutral there is no hissing noise and the car is stock except for the pod filter. Btw I'm a noob at this :P

Thanks in advance guys.

if not doing it in neutral I'd say its just the turbo boosting?
Mine did that when ever boosting up? Thats one one to describe it anyway. a Hissing that is.

Do you have a boost guage?
If not fit one v.easy and can use a cheapo one .

The turbo also spools in neutral not going anywhere.

I could get my blow off valve happening just fine without load. Get someone under the bonnet while accellerate/release and see if they can identify where the sound is coming from.

The thing is its not making that noise while in neutral, only under load. Would there be more pressure build up while under load hence the hissing could be maybe coming from a cracked hose? But I will try what you have suggested. Cheers

hmm. OOO ooo! Mine also did that after the catalytic converter died.

Does it still make same power? or feel restricted?!?

it feels as though its making the same power but then again I'm afraid to push it any harder.

Sounds like it could be a big exhaust leak. Use a bit of ribbon tied to the end of a stick and wave it around the exhaust up around the turbo while the engine is running to check for leaks.

Might be either a vacuum leak or a leak in the air intake.
