Yeah they play it down hard in their application notes. Apparently it really doesn't stick to exisiting paint either, and they say it does. But all the hot rod builders in the states say that if you get all the prep exactly right, its the best shit ever, you can take to it with a hammer and it doesn't budge.

what are you going to do about primer though? use the recommended 'Tie Coat'?

Nah I will lightly coat it with the epoxy primer I have while the last coat of por15 is still tacky. Have read in several places that works well. Also don't believe what they say about not needing to sand with the Tiecoat, Ive read in a few places that people had it just fall off after they did that, also another guy just scotchbrighted the cured por15 up and the tiecoat didnt stick either, it actually needs a decent sand (if its cured).

After a whole lot of failure, I have finally had some success with paint.

Basically I painted my whole engine bay in POR 15 but none of it stuck worth a damn, so all that had to come back off (took about 3 days solid and two grinder wirebrushes) Then went to prime it with normal epoxy primer and had fisheye problems straight away (contaiminants) so had to strip the little bit of that off and cover it with something so the steel didnt go rusty.

Finally I decided to try painting a smaller part so failure wasn't quite so catastrophic. Cleaned up a guard last night and tonight and just finished putting about 5 coats of durapox epoxy primer on it, looks all good this time, I didn't get too much flow, probably should have had a bit more thinner but it will be sweet with a sand.



Now I can get back to making turbocabs shocks!

Its actually red primer, the white balance got a bit messed up in that photo.

Yeah I got a bit of water in it towards the end because my compressor was getting tired, but most of it is pretty good. Got it nice and smooth this time too. Man it was an awkward place to paint in.

Chipped factory ecu. My work has all the gear to properly reverse engineer this now, so it should have datalogging and everything.

I now have a mostly dent free roof and another stripped and primer guard. Its coming together well.

Got told last weekend we had a month to get out of the house, landlord is moving back in

Good news is the new place we have sorted out has a totally rad garage. Its lit by like 12 flouro bulbs, its huge, carpeted, decent workshop, all flat concrete, eletric garage door My goal for the next week is to get the Civic towable, cleaned up the wheel wells tonight, will give them a paint on Saturday morning, while that dries I will install some brakes, a seat, and a steering wheel. Then on Sunday I should be able to paint on all my underbody sealer stuff, then next week I will install some front suspension, and Ill be rolling again!

Yay moving is such fun.....
Although that new garage sounds amazing, I'm quite jealous.
