Very tidy motor Dean!

Slowly making progress, the roof is all faired and ready for final prime. The rear 1/4s are ready for final sand and then basecoat. The Engine bay should be getting painted, like actual paint, this weekend! Then I can put the engine back in, and have a break from the monotony of sanding.

This is what $1200 (!!) of painting stuff looks like!!

Bloody base coat is about $130 a litre.

Engine bay and interior are painted, so some major steps in the right direction. Most of the filling and fairing is done, mostly just sanding, a bit of priming and then painting to go.

At the moment just organizing a bunch of parts to go off and get black powder-coated, and I am getting my entire bolt collection cleaned up and re-plated so they will be as good as new.

I have also chosen my wheels, and I am going to buy those some time this week.

The lightest, affordable 17" wheel I could find, getting them for $600 NZD new.

When I get the bolts and the powder coated parts back it will be time to start putting installing the engine and doing the wiring :D

Didn't end up getting those wheels, got some different Konig ones, here is a Photochop of basically how I want it to look very soon.

Hah good luck! They are nice to drive, love that subie rumble and they are a great compromise of comfort and handling. Feels good to be driving a boosted car again!

On a rebuild related note, I got my parts back from the power coaters yesterday and they look amazing, highly recommend it to anyone rebuilding their car. I got:

Crossmember
Swaybar
Pedals + Pedal box
Bumper mounts
Engine mounts
Bunch of little things

Amounted to 20 parts I think, and it was $140 nzd from http://www.powdercoatingnz.co.nz/

Was about $5 each for the little parts. $25 for the cross member, $15 for the swaybar.

Also my whole bolt collection and door hinges and a few other parts have all be stripped an re-plated which was only $40 at http://www.zincandchrome.co.nz/, which is their base charge for up to 20kg.

Thats a very sharp price! up here I paid $210 for exhaust manifold, turbo dump pipe, and a heat shroud

Is that for ceramic coating tho? Power coating would just burn at exhaust temps wouldn't it...

I would hope it's ceramic for that price, I only paid $120 for 4 wheels powdercoated!
Yep, powdercoating will melt right off an exhaust manifold way before it gets to max. temp.

Bought wheels.

Got all my bolts and everything back from the platers.
Sanded and primed the roof and the slam panel.
Started sorting out the wiring.

Haha yup that picture is a few years old now, considering my car has been off the road for 4+ years now.

Planning to do some more painting, and some work on the city suspension this weekend.

Probably going to have to fabricate / have fabricated two new drip rails / gutters. They are a fairly complicated piece of sheet metal.

Door and guards primed up. Guards should be ready for colour after a final sand. Door needs a bit more love.
