Leaky radiator

Postby el roacho » Wed Dec 12, 2007 12:59 pm

The radiator on my t1 is leaking heaps of water. I took it to my mechanic and he said it's not worth putting in a secondhand radiator because most of them are stuffed or on their last legs. He said I should get a new core for it, how much should I expect to pay for a new core?

yeah i wouldnt bother with a new core, i have NEVER had any problems with second hand radiators so long as they are in reasonble condition in the first place you should be allright.

Radiators are different between T1 and T2, neck is in a completely different location so make sure you get the right one for your car.

If you can, it is always a good idea to get the radiator serviced. As little as 15% blockage in the rad can cause overheating issues, and noone wants a cooked head...

You should be able to get a cleanout, which will set you back at around the $100 mark, the advantage of a cleanout is they can often fix leaks etc at the same time, that is if the core isn't too far gone...

Recore should be less than $200 after all, you only have to cook the head once to blow out $200 in repairs...
