Carb to efi build...now with a Garrett T2 turbo! new pics

Postby ClassicProT » Sun Mar 28, 2010 1:29 pm

Hey guys,

Been a while, but I have managed to make some progress.
For those who dont know, I'm converting my City Pro T to efi (don't ask why...)

If this is successful, I'll look into turbocharging the bugger.
Anyways, enough talk...here are some pics

The last pic is the surge tank and external efi pump in the boot.
I only got one more thing to do and thats plumb the fuel system. Hopefully I'll get that done sometime during the next two weeks.

The annoying part about this build was making the inlet manifold...

If I were to change the design, I would have stuck with the original inlet manifold and just converted it to LPG. It would have been so much easier... plus it would accept boost a tad better. Your only problem would be valve recession haha.

Hey all,

Some massive changes have been made on my journey to convert my Pro T to EFI.

I have decided to convert the car to TBI (Throttle Body Injection for those who don't know). This is because I had some major issues with the port injection. The number 4 injector squirted fuel as high as 20cm when I switched the system on. In addition, my lathe shat itself so I cant make a new injector seat.

Anyways, I decided to head down to the wreckers to score me a TBI from a 94 holden berina. This little beauty has only one fuel injector and is internally regulated...so there is no need to make a fuel rail etc... I just simply made an adapter plate for the original Pro T inlet manifold and done!

All that's left is the wiring and fuel plumbing which shouldn't take long.

Here are some pics:

here is the fuelling system all plumbed up in the back

The other good thing about the TBI is that its got a stepper IAC. This allows me to control the idle RPM during warmup in megasquirt. Its also got the TPS itegrated. So its a pretty effective unit.

Hey all,

For those who are interested, I've finished the installation and also added a wideband o2.

The system runs and I'm currently road tuning the beast.
I have also moved the fuel pump into the spare wheel to reduce the noise.

After I finish turning the VE tables I'll move onto the turbocharging it.
I have two turbos:
T2 from a Nissan pulsar ET (oil only)
T25 'low pressure turbo' from a Saab 9000CS (water + oil)

The T2 looks slightly seized whilst the T25 spins freely. However I'm worried the T25 might be a bit too big for the engine (hard to find the right map). Any advice on choosing the turbo would be awesome.

Just an update.

The car is now running really well.
I have added a turbo to the spare engine. Here are some pics:

It's the T2 from a Nissan Pulsar.

All that is needed now is to add the oil lines and exhaust. Adding the turbo was too easy.

Turbo. Nice idea. But need considering that, engine Honda city have several version. Turbo version have more strengthen construction and low compression ratio. That guarantee reliability .

In any case I like you’re project. 8)

See Russian Honda City meetings.

When I started this project I knew the compression would be a problem. But hey...it's all for the fun of it! I'll only be running like 5psi. With a good tune it should be alright I reckon.
