Engine swap

Postby Bart » Fri Jun 10, 2011 10:52 am

Gday guys, I got a Honda City Pro T no turbo.
Would a 2003 Honda Jazz engine be a good swap or should I steer towards a VTEC engine from an early 90's model?? I’ve seen some fairly cheap VTECS and Jazz engines.

Remind me whats in the 03 Jazz?
K20 or L13/15 which was in the fit as well..

IMO it would be easiest and cheapest to swap a JDM D15B vtec or vtec d16a/z. There are a few build threads if you look on google and its quite a tight fit requiring a lot of custom work.

D-series is a lot closer an engine to the ER thats in the city. The drive shafts have the same number of splines, the gearbox has the same shifter mechanism.

I would also go for a d15b vtec, but its going to be far from bolt-in. Lots of electrics, some cutting and welding (engine mounts are quite different).

Cutting and welding is not a problem, just concerned in adapting/shortening the drive shafts, never played with a front wheel drive.

except its auto and non-vtec. You can get d15b vtec over here in NZ for 200-300 so you should look at importing one from here.

All vtec d series are sohc.
D16 dohc is also know as a zc. Would be a lot more work trying to fit a dohc engine since the sohc only just fits.

So ether get the d15b vtec or a d16 vtec. They both make the same power stock altho after mods the d16 will have 4-5hp more.

Or if you wanted to try something new, you could look at getting a ma09ert from a nissan march. they come supercharged with turbo and are very small so should fit.

I wanted to stick with the Honda DNA but yeah i like nissan, (Got a Nissan V8 in my LJ Torana). Nissan march sounds a little rare and may be more dollars?

Are the DOHC engine fatter and longer or just fatter due to the extra cam?

Did a quick search on the ma09ert, has similar power to the D16 but has turbo etc. Sound more work

I think the ma09ert would be a hard engine to find in Oz.

I understand, not that many of the Nissan March Super Turbo cars were imported in to Australia.

Try here for some more details on that care and engine if your interested
