If I was going to get into body/rust repairs etc. What is the best welder to go for? Anyone got a specific Brand/Model they use & swear by?

I've had a couple of welders from BOC, they're a bit more pricey but bloody good machines- I'm using one to do rust repairs on my T2 at the moment, you want a mig about 100-150 amps running 0.8 mm wire, and an argon/co2 mix gas.

Renting one from BOC gas is the way to go unless you plan on doing a lot more cars. Other wise youll find you arnt using it that often.

I've got a BOC Mig, and a cheap chinese TIG. The BOC welds nice, but they aren't cheap. The Chinese TIG is pretty damn good for the price ($300) but a bit harder to learn than MIG especially for panel work. Mate of mine just got a Cigweld MIG that he is pretty happy with, and you can get for a decent price off TM.

I prefer Henrob 2000 oxy for sheet metal work.

Cheers for the suggestions. Anytime i go into a Auto store etc. there are lots of seemingly cheap welder setups for sale but no idea if they are utter garbage or decent. :?
