HEADBOLT REMOVAL SEQUENCE

Postby ANTHRAXXX » Tue May 08, 2012 3:35 pm

Considering taking apart my 'spare' blown engine consdiering it's out of the car etc. & findout if it does have a blown piston or ring...Easy way to do this? Have tackled headbolts once before but never been aware of removal sequences etc. before.. Any advice? Can you just remove the sump & take them out from underneath?

Would be hard taking them out with the crank.
Just take the head off.

Dont know if its the correct procedure but iv done it twice now on T2 engines.
Inside outwards.

Then the same when sticking it back on but do them all up to 20ft/lb first then on to 42ft/lb

Cant remember what the rods are done up to tho but its on here somewhere.

when torquing the head down u go from the inside out in a clock-ways direction. when removing the head it doesn't really matter but always is a good idea to go in the reverse order when removing the bolts.

when the head goes back on you go in three steps with all bolts 22ft/lbs to seat the head then 33 and 44ft/lbs (off a head gasket packet) to torque the head down evenly.
