Forward-mounted-bottle Master Cylinders

Postby ANTHRAXXX » Fri Nov 28, 2014 10:47 am

A lot of you probably already know but thought I'd post this up, Been replacing my T1 & T2 brake boosters/MC's over past few months, and thought the Master Cylinder would be the Easy part, but it's amazing how hard it's been to try & find a replacement for this forward-bottle style! ( see pic )

Image

Basically every cheap easy to find MC has the bottle-at-the-back design which means it won't fit in the City's. My way around it has been to cut down the height of the bottle, and luckily the new MC I got came with a rubber lid unit, so I can actually open it & fill with fluid :p

Anyways really just means that if your MC fails you will have to rebuild it or pay abit to have it redone. The shaft-style MC's have the forward mounted bottles, but they don't fit the new Made in China Boosters :(

That reservoir looks small, does it hold the required amount of fluid.

Its had 12mm Cut off the top, but still has the Min/Max markings so can hold the right amount, but no extra.

My first idea was a section of 45mm rubber elbow over the base of the bottle that allowed it to be mounted leaning forward clearing the box which worked, but I didn't like the idea of rubber soaking in brake fluid. I'ii get the other mc rebuilt and stuck back in eventually, just showing the issue with the common type. A website says this mc is a replacement for the original disscontinued Honda City MC but yeah...it isnt ;)

could a steel or alloy elbow be fabricated to suit and relocate the bottle perhaps?

Yeah of course a nice aluminum adaptor could be cnc'd etc. but hardly worth the effort. A master cylinder from a 2002 Accord would fit as it has a offset low profile bottle but only ones I found online for sale were $200+.

Yeah but the brake line attatchments are on the wrong side. Was hoping to find a closer matching type. ;)

Ha Yeap that's the beast I was looking at, shame New ones are closer to $200 though :p This all shows how Unique the City's Brake parts are.
