Stock t1 exhaust size?
Hey does anyone know the size of the exhaust on a standard t1? Going to upgrade my exhaust soon, and my cities are in the shop so I can't measure for myself right now. Opinions on best size for upgraded exhaust too? Cheers
Re: Stock t1 exhaust size?
Think standard they are already 2inch? I had mine redone/replaced earlier this year with a 2.5 inch.

Sweet thanks. Did the 2.5 inch exhaust make you gain noticeable power?
Re: Stock t1 exhaust size?
I *had* to replace the exhaust as it was mostly rust & holes, also I'm one of those that does that sort of thing purely for the nicer sound..it has a deep rumble to it now, and seems to let off a loud Crack of a backfire when you let off the throttle when doing over 100k's. Far as gaining HP, really didn't notice anything special, but you tend to drive abit more like a nut when you get a new exhaust anyways

Yeah from what I'm told city turbos with a bigger exhaust sound hella good. My exhaust is just a rusty pipe at this point too so it needs replacement.. some power gains would be nice though, but keen for that rumble
Re: Stock t1 exhaust size?
Hello, I also reworked the exhaust, because the turbine is not developed the necessary pressure. I installed the pipes with a diameter of 63 mm

Re: Stock t1 exhaust size?
All my turbo city's i've owned have come with exhausts that have had some form of repairs done so not sure if pipe size was original however the last bend after the cat & before the flexi(if you have one) on a stock down pipe is very small, from memory its less than 1.5inches I.D not O.D & is likely to be the most restrictive part. A 2inch turbo back exhaust is ideal as its easier & cheaper to make unless you plan on running high boost then 2.25inch or 2.5inch is likely to be more than enough size to cope. Just so you know i got my car dyno'd on thursday just been & was running stock T2 turbo with 2.5inch turbo back exhaust with a triple flow muffler & it made the same power at 20psi as the other 2.5inch straight through exhaust (no mufflers) i had, 96wkw.

When you say turbo back exhaust would you take off the flexi and just have the 2" exhaust straight back? My t1 has no cat in it so that's not a problem. Oh and I assume if i went for 2" I would still need to port my wastegate?

Chances are you will need to open the wastegate port up but it should be done anyway unless you plan on running higher boost all the time then it wont be necessary. Turbo back exhaust means full exhaust right off the turbo exhaust flange, remove the restrictive flexi that is bolted to the turbo.
