hunting

Postby kenny » Thu Jun 05, 2003 11:49 pm

hey

i have just got my t2 going with the puck clutch goes good but it is hunting. i found one pipe with a hole in it and fixed it and it still hunts, so i took it to a honda wrecker to see if he could fix it. found the problem it was the vacume advance. as it leaked air, it made the thing hunt. has any body had this happen before.

thanks kenny 8)

Hi Kenny

Yeah, it's a standard problem on Citys.  I've replaced a couple on Citys I've had.

Cheers

Tony  :)

I bought a brand new vacumn advance.
Still has hunting/bouncey idle!

Only made the timing better above 2500revs, power is smoother now, feels better.

But, still hunts/bounces.
Did the bleed air from water jacket..

Still hunts/bounces....!

any more ideas?!?!
possible a vacumn tube has perished???
theres so damn many though, it'd take hours to replace them all.

ideas???

OHHH

Also when the car is at running temperature I've noticed
the hunting only happens when the elec.fan comes on at the radiator.

alternator or battery issue???

I might check the earth on the fan see if anything odd there?!?!
Any one explored that side of it??
listen next time as soon as the fan comes on ...
hunt/bounces!!!

you'll see!!!

I think it would be unlikely, but still possible, that it is a alternator or battery problem. I think the fan is going on at the same time as the hunting as this is when the engine is up to its running temperature and the computer is changing to a different map. I had a similar problem with mine and it turned out to be a pin hole in one of the vacume lines that was bearly visable. This vacume line went into one of the two solinoids in the black box which was swiched at opperating temperature thus causing it only to hunt at running temp. Check all your rubber hoses particulally the ones that lead to these two vacume soliniods.

But arn't there like a hundred vacumn hoses going there?!?!

Noticed today when I re-oiled my filter that the pipe from it to the inlet of the turbo was moving to much.
Closer inspection at turbo end showd the rubber
"joiner" (???) from turbo to inlet air pipe was torn all the way round pretty much, like from 12 oclock to 9oclock.
So its obviouslt not air tight.
half way up this pipe is a vacumn leed going somewhere, so its probable Im gunna have to fix this to unsure thats not the problem IE. that particular vacumn is showing funny reading due to not being an actual vacumn environment!!

bugga.
