Is this a good idea??

Postby 1MAQL8 » Tue Jul 08, 2003 2:31 am

I saw this in the Loot in NZ and was wondering what is involved in fixing this car (money wise)

For Sale $250.00 HONDA
City 1983, wof/reg, fuel injected intercooler turbo, silver hatch, minor repairs, needs headgasket, AIWI $250 ono

I'm not too worried right now about the "minor repairs" I'm more worried about the headgasket - does that work cost much?

Hi Phillip

Yeah, do it, or at least go and take a look, a head gasket ain't such a big job.  I'm guessing since it's got the intercooler it's a T2 and not a T1.  The other minor repairs, hmmm, probably got knocked back on a WOF for rust in the bottom of the doors.  Get it fast, 'cause I wouldn't expect it to be about long...

I would be a bit sus about the fact that it's a T2, T2's came out in 1984 as far as i new.  In fact my old turbo 1 was newer than my new t2 by a few months...  Maybe i'm wrong but i'd say it's definitely worth going over.

if its a t1 with an intercooler fitted...well, good find!
Even if bodies shot, excellant for spares then for $250.

if its still reg and wof even if its still only got live plates i'd buy it. mine cost $150 with lve plates, they were gonna use it for paddock racing. just tell them that a head gasket repair will cost you heaps and then offer $150.. thats what i did, at worst it would probably cost you around 500 to fix it and if the bodys good thats a $750 t2.... not bad
