Fuel loss

Postby crooky » Mon Aug 04, 2003 7:47 pm

Hey guyz.  When I fill my tank up, I notice a fuel smell for a while until it gets down to 3/4 tank (which incidently happens within about 50km).  Can't see where I'm losing fuel but I know its happening.  Also, the fuel cap seems to seal, but the system does not seem airtight as there is no airlock there when you take the fuel cap off to fill up.  My mazda makes a pshh noise when I undo the fuel cap.  i can smell the fuel inside the car but also around near the fuel cap.  Perhaps it is the pump under the rear wheel there, I will have to check.  Seems funny though that the smell would disappear once fuel level subsides.

I would probly get that too if i fill the tank right up, cant put more then 3/4 tank in otherwise when i go around corners too fast it sorta sploshes out.  I dont have a proper fuel cap, and cant get one either as there is part of the filler or something missing.

It's annoying to say the least.  :-/

Perhaps you should check all the lines in and out of the tank.  Especially the return line...
