Panels

Postby crooky » Thu Aug 14, 2003 9:39 pm

Can you put T2 panels (ie. the flared guards) on to a T1.  I know the tail lights are slightly different which might be a problem, but otherwise they look like they should fit.  Anybody done it?  I'm thinking this because if I want to put bigger rims on the T1, i don't want to have to settle for 14 inch.  I'm thinkin 16s.  Plus the flared guards give the car that unique look.

LOL

I thought i was the only sucker who wanted to do this :)

I have a T1 as well and feel your pain for not wanting to stick with 14s.  I had 14s on mine with 185/60/14 and they just used to drive me crazy as they would rub around any corner and i couldnt carry any passangers in the back.

I looked into getting T2 guards (rear) but it turns out the it would cost just as much to do that as it would have for a T2 itself.  The guards cannot be deattached and you would have to cut them off and then re weld it on to the T1.  Not any old Joe Bloggs could do that and for a pannel beater to do it properly it would cost quite a bit.

Here are my quotes (NZD)
Rolling T2 body = 400
Cutting both guards on both cars= 200
Re welding = 700

Total = 1300

So do you think you want it that bad ! :)

cheers

BOB

give give the t2 rear 1/4 panels to me and i will weld them :)

(onto MY t1)  ;D

Ive just spent hours seem welding the gutters off my t1, and fixing the guards and all sorts of other things, in hindsight i wish there was a wreaked t2 around here i could have got the guards off!!!

If you are in NZ and you are near Auckland.......give strong for honda a ring they quoted me 400 for a t2 rolling body.........if my memory serves me right a rolling body is a whole car minus a motor.

I'm looking at maybe having my panels widdend(keeping the originals to one side).

but there are plenty of N/A city's in Mount Maungnaui, one or two T1's Tony's Cabrolet and my T2.. but there is an invader T2 in the area and I'm trying to find out who's it is, as it looks just like mine and it goes cruzing and it a hit with the "mount locals" and people at school are asking if it is mine.... ggrrr.. I'm so jelous!!!
