Replacing Turbo----Removing Engine?
Replacing Turbo----Removing Engine?
;D
Hi Turbo2 Here,
I'm looking at removeing the engine in my city and doin a bit of work on it.
At first I was originally needed to Replace to blown turbo Unit.
I thought it would be straight foward but it doesn't look that way.
I thought of doing it by removing all the sub-frame and gettin in there that way
But i thought to myself that I'm sure that it would be better to just remove the engine and do a bit of work on it while its out
Like gettin some head work done and bottom-end bearings and other things
Unsure on whats involved and how hard it is to do it looks pretty straight forward would like some advice.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question
But I'm unfamiliar to this so any tips, sugestions and pointers on wat to watch out for would be appreciated...................................
Thank's Turbo2 ;D

dude stop attacking your . key, what did it ever do to you! ;D
Re: Replacing Turbo----Removing Engine?
To get the turbo off to give it to you we had to drop the exhaust out completely and take off the intake manifold, throttle body etc to get at it. I believe getting the exhaust off was the most difficult bit because we had to thread it out past the fuel tank etc. Apart from breaking off a few bolts in the manifold it was all pretty much straight forward, just make sure that you can remember where everything goes back (most of it is obvious).
PM Bigelboe if you want a hand with the engine removal, he sorted out most of my engine swap.

Re: Replacing Turbo----Removing Engine?
you shouldnt need to unbolt the whole thing just bend it at the flexi pipe.. as for all the other stuff(everything), it can be done with the motor still in the car except for mains(athough it can be done but tends to be more trouble than its worth), you dont even need to take your pistons out BUT.. it pays to have at least some knowledge and a torque wrench
Re: Replacing Turbo----Removing Engine?
Hmmm, flexi pipe? Aint got one of them on mine. Seems to have made our job a little harder than it had to be!
Re: Replacing Turbo----Removing Engine?
Hmmmm Broken a few bolts off tooo >:(
Damn IT.....
Got exhaust out + Flange + waste-gate but Very difficult to remove bolts on manifold?
Also cant entirely get the Intake Manifold off Wats stopping it? I have removed the thottle body + the injectors but Dont No wats holding it on.
Is it bolt to the Exhaust Manifold Too.? :-/
Tryed heating the bolts up but still very difficult to remove.
Any ideas.

Re: Replacing Turbo----Removing Engine?
are you sure you got all of the bolts.. try using an impact driver to get the tight ones off otherwise use a 1/2 inch 6pce(not a 12pce or you may round the head) socket and driver with a big long pipe stuck on the end
Re: Replacing Turbo----Removing Engine?
Removed F@@RKT Turbo the other day. :D
Didn't bother removing intake manifold just work around it but did however remove everthing else in the engine bay. >:(

You using Cobalt drills? I highly recomend them to you if not - aircraft engineer friend of mine swears by them for rivet removal! Should eat into that steel.

Re: Replacing Turbo----Removing Engine?
I replaced a turbo last year. Pulled the motor out to do it too. Once it was all back together I discovered with the extra boost that the clutch was slipping. >:( As I couldn't be bothered taking the motor out again I replaced the clutch with the motor still in place. Only took a couple of hours.

Actually, I was too lazy to take the gearbox out so I undid the mounts, wobbled it around a bit and found enough room between the block and bell housing to finnish the job.
