Re: right who wants a wide body racer kit??

Oh yeah, I figured that, but to get a hard enough surface to allow you to get a finish good enough to pull a plug from you will need to put a coat or two of resin over the foam before you start to smooth it. That is unless you are going to use styling clay in which case you can get close enough with...

Re: right who wants a wide body racer kit??

Just rereading all of the entries above I noticed that it was stated twice that at least in your area urethane foam is cheaper than styrene. That is not the case in the USA where styrene panels are used to insulate in building construction and thus much easiler to source and cheaper than urethane pa...

Re: right who wants a wide body racer kit??

Another problem with styrene foam is that although it is much more plentiful, and by far cheaper than urethane, it's biggest drawback is you can't touch it with anything that has acetone in it. i.e. thinners, plastic body filler etc. They will melt right through it. To use styrene foam you need to s...

Re: Spring Rates : John

I'll add one more thing. I'm over 50yrs old and proud to say I am one of the "Hippie" Generation. And all I can say about that is over this entire span of my life thus far...NOTHING... has changed my attitudes about the greedy and worthless people who manage to lie, steal and cheat their w...

Re: Spring Rates : John

I am afraid they are all but gone in my area as well.        !stGen Civics are ancient history arouund here. K.C. is a city with over a million pop. and I don't know of more than two other ones besides the ones I have. My cars wouldn't still exist if I hadn't keep fixing them. When I go to the local...

Re: Spring Rates : John

Oh, hey Bigelboe, I forgot to mention that the 1stGen  Prelude front struts are 50mm OD as well as threaded, and therefore the uprights are 50mm ID. They are a direct bolt on  to the Civic except you do have to use the Prelude lower control arms as the balljoint stud is heavier duty. I wonder if you...

Re: Spring Rates : John

Those pillow balls you speak of, are they lifetime lubed, or do they normally have zerk fittings? I recieved an Email back from the Gent who owns Milton Racing in the UK. The gave me some specifics on the strut cap pieces they manufacture, and also mentioned the same type of setup. He says they tend...

Re: Spring Rates : John

Oh and regard to bump steer. I just recently read an excellant description of the dynamics of it all on another website in the last week. I think it was on one of the sites I follow about guys building up their old English Ford Anglias,(105 Speed.com), or maybe one of the other numerous sites linked...

Re: Any Help Mods?

The dude that put together the "New" 1stGen site  recently put a post on there to state that it had become self-suficient I'm not sure how it was done, but I can say that it doesn't appear to me to have any popups or ads that are what I would call intrusive, so it might be worthy of queryi...

Re: Spring Rates : John

Well, I wish I could come up with a simple and to the point answer about this, but I don't have one. I was lucky to get a set of the B+G springs from a USA supplier, but it was their last set. Supposidly they are still available in Sweden where they were made, but I don't know this for sure. I haven...

Re: Broke a C.V. Joint

Yeah, the fact that you are running a CVCC design adds to the complication of head modification. Since most quench designs and techniques are based on non CVCC heads, we don't have a lot to fall back on. Although I believe that Honda did produce, at least "Stateside" a 12valve CVCC head ba...

Re: Broke a C.V. Joint

You know, It would be a lot easier in some ways to just get a newer car that has fewer miles on it. But as much as I bitch and groan when I am actually turning the wrenches, or dealing with broken studs, or searching for the part I just know I have three of "somewhere" ::), when the job is...
