Guys,
I have an air pressure regulator for sale. WTF is that I hear you say. It is much like a fuel pressure regulator but for air and is adjustable.
What do you use it for?
Well two things for the city turbo
1: Defeat boost cut defender. Plug it in at the end of your map sensor line and set it just before boost cut. It will let the mapsensors read everything as normal until it gets to the set limit (say 14.5psi) and then it holds the preesure at 14.5psi. This means no boost cut out and no damaging map sensor diaphragms with higher than stock pressure. It also means that none of the fuel curve is touched like often happens when fitting an electronic boost cut. Oh yeah and it is very simple to both fit and remove.
2: Bring your car on boost stronger and quicker. When used in conjunction with a one way valve you can fit it in your turbo line to prevent the waste gate actuator seeing any pressure till the psi you set the regulator at. This is completely different to a boost controller!
What happens in you car normally is if your wastegate actuator is set at say 10psi it actually starts to open the waste gate at around 6 psi. You can set the regulator at 10psi so that no pressure is released to the wastegate until that pressure is reached.
I will explain the circuit and function to the buyer.
Will swap for an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (malpassi or similar) or equivalent in cash about $150.
It is unused. Will come with a brass air tap for boost control as well.
Have pics which I can email.

Re: Cool boost device for city turbo
Is this a personal-built item? I've contemplated building something pretty much just like that, but I was concerned about the high likelihood of a boost spike just as the wastegate was trying to open. Unless the wastegate opens instantaneously you will surely see a boost spike.
Setting up the electronics would be easy, but the mechanical aspect still comes into play.

Re: Cool boost device for city turbo
Yes you do get a slight boost spike(when talking about the boost creep limiting) but you set the preset below your target boost. The boost spike is used to your advantage. The example above was a bit simplistic but boost does start to bleed off at around 6 psi. Now if you are running around 17psi, you set the preload to about 13-15psi which means all air is passed though the turbine until this point. There is no pressure in the wastegate actuating line until the pressure regulator starts to open at your set pressure. This helps to keep the wastegate tightly closed. Once pressure is introduced to the line to the turbo actuator (which in the city turbo's case will also have a boost bleed valve) the wastegate will start to open (bear in mind there is pressure on the actual wastegate due to the internal backpressure in the turbine housing). There will be a small spike from the point at which pressure builds in the wastegate actuator but this will usually be in the realm of your final boost pressure. So by the time you get a boost spike to 17psi (your setting was 15psi on the regulator) you are now at your projected peak boost which is subsequently held throughout the gear.
The main benefit being a strong rush to maximum boost where it is subsequently held but significantly fattening up the midrange.

Oh yeah it is a factory pneumatic item which I had to hunt for to get in the pressure range I was after 0-25psi. The body is alloy, with a lock down large adjustor for fine changes. I have pics.

any clues as to what it was used for on factory?
sounds like something i would find in some boat freezer crap...

I got it from a pneumatic line and fitting specialist in Cairns, they had to order it in from Norway. There are plenty of similar type pressure regulators for spraypainting etc, but not this small and not for the pressure range I was chasing (0-~30psi). Who knows what the orriginal function is but it has screw in fittings and the option to plug in a pressure gauge as well.

Sorry Glenn,
The device is sold/swapped with Damian (1st in) as it turns out the regulator he had was adjustable. Sorry mate first in is as fair as I can be. I am in Sydney for a couple o days though if you want to chat.
Merry Christmas and sorry about the confusion.
