Hi Folks,

I have been in contact with Quaife in the UK about buying one of these and was advised... "Unfortunately the QDF3U is now out of stock with no planned production. Our minimum batch order would be x10 units."

I know a few people on here have purchased these over the years and I was wondering if you all got around to installing them or if someone has one they never got around to installing they would like to sell me? :)

Failing that, I am waiting to hear back from Phantom Grip on which one of their products (if any) would fit my T2 gearbox.

If you can find the drawing on the quaife website for their equivalent of this part:

It might be able to be made to fit.

OBX LSD's are basically copies of Quaifes.

I think thats the right drawing for that Ebay part above.

Looks like it would probably fit. Needs the bearing races turned down to 35mm. A bit of mucking around with the length, and a crown wheel spacer.

Funny, I was wondering if these could be made to fit on Sunday night.

Reading a bit about them on a couple of forums and it sounds like u need to pull them apart and 'clean them up' and replace some washers before they are installed.

James, would you be interested in giving the modification of such a diff a go?

Just noticed the QDF4U is already made for 35mm bearings and has the remaining same dimensions as the QDF7U.

Found a couple of others, asked the sellers for measurements etc.

Yeah the QDF4-U looks like it would be a good bet, but I don't think OBX make the 35mm bearing version. Thats probably not too much of an issue, its not a big deal to turn down that race, and I think you would have to make a spacer for the 35mm bearing version anyway as the bearing needs to sit a bit wider.

I have a viscous LSD from a 91 SOHC Vtec civic with 40mm bearings that I plan on putting in my t2 box.

I'd probably be keen to give it a go, would you want it in a T1 or a T2 box? I've heard from a few sources that the T2 box is stronger and better oiled, more likely to get parts for it too as it shared most of its parts with the 3rd gen civic.

It would be for a T2 box. I have 2 apparently, 1 I know is for sure & one I'm not sure.

When are you back from the USA?

I'll order one of the suitable OBX diffs and have it delivered to you if that suits :-)

Also I see the PCD is different (120mm > 125mm) will that cause much extra work?

Sweet, I have a couple of T2 boxes here so I can use one of those for test fitment.

I'm back from the US of A on the 28th of this month, for two weeks, and then I'm going back over there again for another 2-3 weeks, so I'm probably a write off until mid June.

Let me double check all the mods, and have a look in a gear box this week before you order (nothing is gonna happen for a good few weeks anyway), I'll have to make sure there is enough room in the box as the flange on the 40mm diff is a lot closer to the bearing, so might foul something. Im pretty sure its ok tho, as the viscous diff I have is in the same boat, and I remember looking inside a gearbox casing and thinking it looked fine.

Hey James, I know you are a busy boy, but any chance you have managed to check the measurements for this?

Hey Glen,

Nope I haven't had a chance yet, its my Mums 50th this weekend, and I'm on Holiday for a couple of weeks from the weekend after.

I could have a go at measuring on Sunday avo/evening, but I might need a PM to remind me or something if you remember?
