dipstick

Which mark on the dipstick should my oil be up to?

When I got the car it was just above the top mark so after I changed the oil I refilled to that level.

what i do is...
(assuming you changed the filter also)...

Fill it up to just below the second mark which is
max level, allow to seep through to sump so you get a rough idea...
Once at this level run for a few minutes , to feed oil through the engine and fill the oil filter which can hold a
good few cups right.
Allow to settle again , then check the level a couple more times... I never fill past the second mark (top)
due to blown seals stories from my dad LOL.

Top up if needed  after few days but I usually go about two thirds up between the two marks....

Make sure it does not go over the  top mark, best to check it a couple of days later, What Smithy said makes sense.
