I'll assume you mean the bit going into the back of the dash?  It should have a little white clip on it.  Maybe yours is broken?  Take the bottom part of the dash off underneath the steering wheel and you should be able to get your hand up there.  Mine seems to be broken atm, anyone got a spare speedo cable?

yeah thats the bit, i think the plastic clip is all right
i can get my hand up there
the plastic clip seems to have a bit that sticks out to clip on to a notch or bump on the socket protruding from the back of the dial, does any one know what possition the clip should  be in to catch on this notchbump to lock it all together?(hope that makes sense)

Dunno, i did all mine myself, actually put hand in from the top...

First time it fell out, next time it stayed in...

Brendan, yeah i got a spare Speedo cable, the Cab and Turbo ones are the same.

At one stage, i had my dash stop, took the dash out and it was still plugged in! Speedo thingy (piece of metal that rotates) was broken...

That car was sold... hey, actually, it was the rev tacho not the speedo :)

I think you just ram the cable in as far as it goes and then rotate it around until it "clicks" home....

Yeah that sounds about right, i could only get 2 fingers around the cable too, so was quite fiddly... but persistance pays off  ;)

You can take the top thing off the dash and see (barely) when you put your head against front windscreen (and look down ) whether it is plugged in.

If it's plugged in, and speedo isn't working, could be your cable, you can take it off at the engine side, and put a screwdriver on the other end and when you turn it on, it turns the speedo and your spd will say something on the dash...

Your dash is newer than the T2 Digital ones, you can put a T2 digital one in, but find the prob first...

I'm not exactly sure where it's located... someone else did it when i did mine ???

Let us all know if you can fit aftermarket stuff :)

But check your cable if everything's plugged in ;)

The other end of the cable plugs into the top of the diff housing right down on the back of the engine. First you pull the rubber cover off, then there will be a metal pin in the side holding it in you have to slide this out before you remove the cable, usually you have to get a pair of pliers onto it to get it free. Im sure youll figure it out when you get there ;D
