wierd s#!t from 4th to 5th

Postby turbocab » Wed Dec 22, 2004 6:36 pm

hey all, just got back from a trip to newcastle to see city_cabroletluke, some thing very strange was happening when shifting from fourth to fifth gear
i would accelerate through fourth change to fifth at 4500 to5000 rpm and apon carefull release of the clutch whilst applying the throttle a little, the car started to sort of engine break and shudder a bit,the first time was on a slight hill but then it did it on the flat
i did notice it was getting kinda warm the temp guage was just over half where ive never seen it before
i hope this makes sense its been a long day ::)
cheers matty

theres no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil
however it has used a wee bit of oil and the oil is fairly dark

Is this the only change that gave this shudder?  Any other noises from the box?

Checked the gearbox oil level lately?

How're the fluid levels generally?  Been in heavy rain or deep water recently?

Overheated clutch can do that too.

worn clutch might be slipping at at those RPM's and low gearing.. might be continually slipping. who knows.. stick it in 5th.. when you are stationary and see if when you let the clutch out it stalls straight away!! if not, slipping clutch.

Just a little note on the ign timing, im guessing your mechanic had no idea what citys are ment to run stock which is about 28 deg of static advance, this is heaps for a turbo car and thats prolly why he turned it down, so currently, you are being robbed of a little power
