Who imported these T1s and T2s

Postby Akuma » Wed Dec 28, 2005 2:31 pm

I was wondering why ppl imported T1s and T2s into Aust and NZ. Its does not really make sence. Sure they are a cool car and all but the profit margin is so small and they are not really that popular except for us.

There were 4 or 5 companieswith compliance authority for the Turbos, nearly all in SE Qld.   They each appear to have brought in about a dozen.

When they arrived here. 1989 - 1992, they were very popular as there was nothing else that was as good a package (performance and handling and practicality. A mini station wagon that was/is a real pocket rocket.)

Around SE Qld the price then was usually pretty close to $10,000.  Not bad for what you got.  At that time (1992) the Beat was being offerred for $20,000.  So which was the better value?

At least half of the companies that brought them in no-longer exist!  But they met their legal obligations for product support with spare parts.  And some Honda dealers (von Vibra at Southport) will try and help you with parts.  And some groups, such as HondaCare at Sumner Park, are prepared to do serious services, if you're out of your depth.

Don't forget that all of the Australian Honda car clubs have members who either own at least one Turbo, have owned one. or have serviced some.  So the support goes beyond this group.

regards,
Campbell

No Turbo's in Japan?

Postby fireslug » Mon Apr 10, 2006 3:06 am

Yo doods, check out the japan auction sites, I have found listings of T1 and T2's at unreal prices. Like as little as U$80. Some can get over a grand, but a bit of a search could well land you with a good turbo for $300 fob.
