Honda City Rumours

Postby MUnity » Fri Mar 28, 2003 2:09 am

Hey,

I thought it would be interesting to post all the unsubstantiated info on the City to see if we can prove/ disprove any of it.

First:

Any one know where I can get a 7 Speed gearbox?

I've also heard that Citys were built by Isuzu, which is interesting since my other car is an Isuzu MU (and soonish a Vehicross).

Finally, according to the book "The Encyclopedia of Dream Cars" Chris Rees, Honda tested three litre, mid engined Honda Citys during the development of the NSX. Now, as much as I love the NSX, I wish the MR City had been produced instead...drool.

We have the City Hypershift over in NZ. I haven't had a really good look at one, but understand it's like the Mitsubishi "SuperShift" which gave two final drive ratios ie, 8 or 10 gears if it's a five speed box!  :o
I'll check that out a bit more.
Yep, Just had a word from Phil at Turbo Tech. He said they used a splitter gearbox on the end of the main box, giving "power" or "economy" ratios. This was exactly like the Mitsi Mirage. To go through all the gears, you would need to change both at the same time.
You would be in 1st "power" and change to 1st "economy" then change to 2nd "power" then 2nd "economy" etc...hard work unless you've got a trustworthy co-pilot or very fast hands!!  ;)

Mirage = Colt in Oz  ;) at least the dual range ones were, newer cars (92?+) get the Mirage badge.
