Computer fault code of 3 & 2

Postby JohnT » Sat Mar 01, 2003 6:28 pm

Trying to get the engine running smoothly. It runs at moderate revs (1500 plus..) but if we back off the throttle simply stalls. If we look at the computer after the stall, lights 3 & 2 are lit. Anyone know the meaning? Is there a computer code reference anywhere? Turbo II computer, I believe, with CVCC. (I know EGR relays are not connected, so it may just be that the computer is telling us.)

Thanks

John

Best of my knowledge is lamps 2 & 3 mean TW sensor problem, either disconnected or open circuit in the wiring. Symptoms would be Difficult to start when cold and idle speed too high when warming up.  Henry

Does TW stand for temperature water or something else?

Yep, measures the water temp, located in the head , resistance across the terminals should decrease as the temp rises, probably about 1-1.65K at 35C  .25-.36K at 80C

Does anyone happen to know which water sensor talks to the computer, the one in the front of the block, the one in the side of the block with a duel plug, the one in the side of the block with a single plugor the one in the radiator. I think the one in the radiator only talks to the fan, so then i just need to figure out which out of the other three talks to the temp gauge and the computer so i can get the wiring right.

Cheers
Chris

P.S. Thanks for all the info so far Henery it has been of great help!

The one at the front of the block is what the ECU uses as a temp reference.  Ive had problems with it before, it definately makes a difference to the running of the engine...

Thanks Henry & Glenn.

In Sydney at the moment, but when I'm back home I'll check out the sensor. Makes sense - being a dog to start when cold, gets easier once its run. Just like having no choke - which would come from no Temp sense.

Many thanks

John

Any ideas on what the fault is when the first 3 lights are lit (those labeled 1,2,4) for a T2 computer?  If the car is running normally should any lights be displayed?

Thanks

Michael.

Michael, 1,2,&4 lights will cause poor pickup response when cold, Poor Quick revving response, and not smooth at startup when cold. Throttle sensor either disconnected, open circuit or shorted. Cheers  Henry

Hi everyone,
I must have missread the fault code before it is actually lights 2 & 8 that light up so it would be computer fault 10. Does anybody have any idea what this could be.

Cheers
Chris

DR86 and Michael. 1&8 is a code 9- Cylinder sensor. Open circuit/ shorted, or disconnected, irregular idle speed and poor pick up response. think it is sometimes referred to as the crank angle sensor.

Code 10 is the Air Temp sensor, it changes the mixtures depending on the air temp.
