Effect of Worn Cam

Postby JohnT » Sun Mar 21, 2004 7:38 pm

The question was asked in the Buy / Sell forum. "What is the effect of a worn cam".

Some engine basics:

The air / fuel mix gets in, and the burnt (exhaust) gases get out via the valves. The  amount of opening of the valves is driven by the "lift" of the cam, so if the cam is worn (meaning the high spots on teh cam get lower) less  air / fuel or exhaust get in or out. Or no gases get in or out if the cam is worn round and tehre is no lift.

If only the CVCC cam is worn, the effect is to stop the City engine working how it was designed to work  -so less power, erratic running and eventually very low power or no running.

There are other post on how the CVCC works in this forum, they will make it pretty clear why the CVCC valve not working is a bad thing if you want to get max power and resilience out of the engine.

Charles provided some info on getting a worn cam re-built, and I have posted that in FAQ with contact details for CAMTECH.
