Harreh

Postby Harreh » Thu Feb 25, 2016 9:35 pm

So I finally decided to get started on this little nugget. Bought it home 9 months ago, let it sit on my lawn, mice moved into the engine bay, made a nice home for themselves. As well as several spiders...

Fit a new turbo and an intercooler... How hard can it be? Right...

TD04 is a bit of a bastard to fit, gonna have to drop the center subframe to clear it in... Probably advisable for me to actually hook up the firewall side engine mount before I do that.

Oh and Vacuum lines? WHY SO MANY?! 1983 EFI at its best(worst?)

Battery tray is fubar, and made out of fibreglass? I'm guessing reproduction.

Hello Harreh! Your T2 looks a lot like my first T2...a real barn-find condition car, straw & a dead mouse as well wrapped around the Air-Con fan :p She did roar into life tho. Your brake booster/MC looks abit rough...I'd be checking the radiator thermostat unit if I were you, the one on my first Turbo 2 was totally rusted & basically did nothing, it finally failed which resulted in the engine blowing. it's in a metal housing on the engine-end of the top radiator pipe.

Cheers dude.

I plan to give it a fairly large overhaul with the cooling system.

Got a lead on a brake booster atm, just need to sort out the appropriate civic booster that suits. Structually the car is fine, so if I can work out what to do in the turbo department, either fitting the TD04 or getting the factory unit rebuilt/highflowed, I'll be keen to get started on paint

Swapping turbo's in these cars with the engine in is the worst thing you'll ever have to do. I sincerely wish you luck hahaha! There really is no room for any tools or your hands, we had to buy smaller sized spanners just for the job

Hahaha I'll take that under advisement, I'm no stranger to cramped workspaces, NA AW11>SC AW11>Turbo AW11

If I need to rip the donk I shall, I've got all the equipment

The owner sold the whole car to another site member mate.
